MONTGOMERY - The pilot of a single-engine plane that left Orange County Airport around 4 p.m. on Sunday apparently experienced engine failure and successfully made an emergency landing in a cornfield, said State Police spokesman Trooper Steven Nevel.

The pilot was able to land the plane safely in the field about a mile from the runway.

The pilot and passenger were uninjured, and the plane was not damaged, said Nevel. "That's amazing," he added.

No immediate details were available, including the identity of the pilot and passenger or where the plane was headed when it was forced to come in for the unexpected landing.
