North State Aviation bringing jobs to local people in Lenoir County, North Carolina

KINSTON, N.C. (WNCT) – A company in Kinston is bringing local jobs to local people. North State Aviation started last year at the Global TransPark and promised to hire around 100 people. So far, they’ve hired many people from around eastern North Carolina.

“It gave me an opportunity to get closer to home and be closer to family and that’s really what drew me here,” explained worker Bobby Holland.

Holland spent more than 20 years in the military. Now he works 40 hour weeks at North State Aviation. The company works to repair planes for large companies like United Airlines and Xtra Airways.

Holland explained, “For years we heard about the TransPark activity and buildup here for it and its good to see businesses coming in and anchoring themselves here and having an impact the local economy.”

Jobs ranging from logistics, distribution and planners are needed to get the planes back on the runway. You don’t need experience to work there. The company works alongside local community colleges like Wayne, Craven and Lenoir to train their employees.  Economic Director Mark Pope says this is what Lenoir County needs, a company which keeps community members working and living in the area.

“Now we are able to offer really good jobs that pay good wages to North Carolina and its right here. For kids to be able to and the ones we have now, there is our pipeline for a labor force for people to work at places like North State Aviation,” Pope explained.

The average salary for a position at north state aviation is around $50,000. Holland says he hopes more people realize you don’t have to leave home to find a good job.
