Incident occurred September 27, 2016 at Greater Rochester International Airport (KROC), Rochester, Monroe County, New York

(ABC 6 NEWS) -- The Rochester Fire Department says a private plane made an unexpected landing at the Rochester International Airport Tuesday night after the pilot smelled smoke in the cockpit.

The 10-passenger plane was about 18 miles from the airport when the pilot notified the airport of the situation. It landed without problems at the airport's fixed based operator, Signature Flight Support around 6:30 p.m.

The Rochester Fire Department and airport firefighters responded, along with Rochester Police.

Crews did a check of the plane and didn't find any flames, heat or smoke.

Nobody was hurt.

It's unclear where the plane was headed or where it had taken off from.
