Coast Guard helicopter responds to Egg Harbor Township, New Jersey, suspect search

EGG HARBOR TOWNSHIP, NEW JERSEY  -- Police launched a search for a suspect in a stolen car incident Thursday morning, which also sent a U.S. Coast Guard helicopter hovering over a highway marsh.

Around 8 a.m., the police department, along with State Police, were set up near the marsh next to the Atlantic City Expressway toward the toll booth near Exit 4.

Police were in the area for about two hours in the morning and the Coast Guard sent an assist via helicopter to the scene as well, Lt. Robert Gray said.

Officials did not locate the suspect and there were no road closures because of the incident.

The township is also experiencing roadway closures in the area due to flooding, however, on Black Horse Pike in West Atlantic City.

Police advise drivers to find an alternate route for the next few hours.

Police added that with an evening high tide, the roadway is expected to be closed into the night and tomorrow morning.
