Workshop for Women Seeking Airport Fire Fighting Careers

HAWAII -- The state is conducting neighbor island workshops for women seeking airport fire fighting careers.

The 90-minute workshops are being held during the month of January, and are free to interested participants.

Officials say the workshop is part of a recruitment initiative designed to increase awareness of Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting careers for women. 

Topics Include: 

How to prepare and submit an online application, ARFF career opportunities, and the firehouse culture from a woman’s perspective.

Two Maui Sessions Planned:

Maui sessions are being held on Jan. 30 from 9 to 11 a.m. at the Lahainaluna Intermediate School Cafeteria and from 2 to 4 p.m. in Kahului at the TSA homeland security north and south meeting rooms on Koloa Street.

Seating is limited to the first 35 women who register at each location, but walk-ins are welcome as long as seating is available.

The workshops are presented in partnership between the Hawaiʻi Department of Transportation and the Department of Human Resources Development.

How to Register:

To register, e-mail HDOT-EEO@hawaii.gov. include your first and last name, the location, time and the subject: “Women in Airport Fire Service”. The deadline to register is by 4:30 p.m., three days prior to the event date. Registration is free. On the day of the event, please check-in at the registration table. Walk-ins are welcomed as long as seating is available.

Individuals interested in receiving electronic notification on future State of Hawaii Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting openings may complete an electronic JOB INTEREST form on the DHRD website. Click on “REQUEST JOB NOTIFICATION BY CATEGORY,” select “Airport” and “Fire/EMS” check boxes and submit the Job Interest Card Information request.
