Military planes part of scheduled training mission

Some Action 2 News viewers reported seeing military planes overhead Tuesday.

The Wisconsin Air National Guard tells us the flyover is part of a scheduled intercept training mission involving military planes and civilian aircraft.

The 115th Fighter Wing says the jets are taking part in a “fertile keynote,” which is what they call practice intercept missions.

“The Aerospace Control Alert jets need to be ready to go 24/7. They get their practice all over the state of Wisconsin by teaming up with the Civil Air Patrol’s Cessna aircraft. They locate the Cessna and practice scenarios they may face in a real-world situation. It’s our way of staying up-to-date on training for our Homeland Defense mission – ready to protect our nation,” said a response from the 115th Fighter Wing.

The airspace stretched from Rhinelander to the Fox Cities, according to National Guard officials.
