Titan Tornado, N4070F: Incident occurred October 15, 2015 in Mitchells, Culpeper County, Virginia

Crews are working on the fence at the Coffeewood Correctional Facility near Mitchells.

It is not because some inmate tried to break out, but rather because a single-engine plane almost broke in.

According to Sgt. Les Tyler of the Virginia State Police, 67-year-old Timothy Hansen left the Manassas airport around noon Thursday and flew his Titan Tornado into southern Culpeper County.

When he started back to Manassas, his engine stalled about 1:20 p.m. and he was forced to land in the open spaces around the prison, crashing into the fence before stopping.

Hansen was not injured.

Damage to the fence was estimated at $500. Tyler could provide no damage estimate to the plane, which he said was built from a starter kit.
