Sport flying workshop to be held at Nampa Municipal Airport (KMAN), Idaho

NAMPA — An introduction to sport aviation will be held from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. May 2 at the Nampa Municipal Airport, 116 Municipal Way in Nampa.

The workshop, sponsored by local Chapter 103 of the Experimental Aircraft Association (EAA), will cover a range of subjects, like what is involved in obtaining a sport pilot’s license versus a private pilot’s license, what are the costs of flying (including owning/sharing and maintaining an aircraft), and what is involved in building an airplane under the definition of a light sport aircraft.

“Idaho is a pilot’s paradise; there is really nowhere better in the world to enjoy aviation”, said Stan Siewert, president of Chapter 103.  “The ease and affordability of becoming a sport pilot is one of the best kept secrets in private aviation.   Our goal with the seminar is to give prospective pilots exposure to recreational flying and describe what steps are needed to turn the dream into a pilot rating”.

The event will be facilitated by EAA chapter members who are Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) licensed pilots, instructors and mechanics.

The workshop is free and open to anyone interested in learning more about aviation.

It will be conducted in the Shep-Rock Hangar located behind the Warhawk Museum.

Examples of sport planes, both experimental and certified, will be on display.

Reservations are not necessary to attend.

Seating will be in a first come basis.
