Incident occurred January 23, 2015 at Chicago Rockford International Airport (KRFD), Illinois

An American Airlines passenger is taken to the hospital after a flight makes an emergency landing at Rockford Chicago International Airport Friday night.

Airport Fire Department Deputy Chief Brian Kunce told 13 News a plane was headed to O'Hare in Chicago when it diverted to Rockford.

Emergency responders were initially told a passenger was not breathing, but it turned out the passenger was breathing just fine.

That person was still taken to the hospital as a precaution.

The other passengers were bused to Chicago to make their connecting flights.

A spokesman for the airline said an ill passenger on the flight from Vail, CO, to Chicago caused the pilot to land at the nearest airport.

The passenger was in need of medical attention, but the spokesperson did not elaborate on what the medical emergency was.

The plane is still in Rockford.
