Bombardier Inc. said Friday it has received a firm order for 40 of its CSeries jets from an aircraft leasing company, bringing its total firm order base for the new narrowbody jets to 243.

The new order, for the larger CS300 model, comes just days after the Montreal plane maker said it is in advanced talks with an undisclosed airline to be its first CSeries operator.

The latest order is from Ireland-based Macquarie AirFinance, which placed a firm order for 40 CS300 jetliners and took options on another 10, the company said. Bombardier said it has now booked orders and commitments for 563 CSeries aircraft.

Bombardier has faced a number of setbacks in the launch of its new CSeries, aimed at challenging the narrowbody-jet duopoly of Boeing Co. and European Aeronautic Defence & Space Co. 's Airbus SA.

The company resumed test flights of the CSeries in September, after being grounded for more than three months following a major engine failure. It plans to deliver its first new CSeries jet in the second half of 2015.

Macquarie AirFinance, which owns or manages 136 jets leased to 73 operators, plans to lease the new CS300s to airline operators around the world, Bombardier said. The specific operators weren't identified.

Delivery of the aircraft to Macquarie AirFinance will take place in phases between 2017 and 2019, the company said.
