On August 21, 2014, about 1848 eastern daylight time, an experimental amateur-built RV-4, N62632, was substantially damaged during a forced landing following a total loss of engine power near Polk Township, Pennsylvania. The commercial pilot sustained minor injuries. Visual meteorological conditions prevailed, and no flight plan was filed for the personal flight, which was operated under the provisions of Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91.

The pilot reported to a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) inspector that the airplane was in cruise flight enroute to Beltzville Airport (14N), Lehighton, PA, when the engine experienced a total loss of power. The pilot's attempts to restart the engine were unsuccessful, and he subsequently conducted a forced landing to a field. During the landing, the airplane nosed over and came to rest inverted, resulting in substantial damage to the engine firewall and right wing.

A detailed examination of the engine was scheduled for a later date.

Richard and Marilyn Kreger were enjoying a peaceful early evening sitting on their front porch, along Kreger Road in Gilbert about 6:50 p.m.Thursday.

Suddenly they saw their son-in-law, Scott Rohrbach and a friend, racing toward a soybean field in front of their home.

That's when they noticed something bright yellow in the field.

Rohrbach had seen a small plane crash in the field, and he and his friend ran to see if they could offer any aid.

When they arrived at the single engine/single person plane, they found it had landed upside down and they heard a man crying out, "Please don't let me burn in here."

Rohrbach saw someone trapped inside. His adrenalin kicked in and they lifted the wing up.

He asked the pilot if he needed help getting out and he replied "no" and crawled out on his own.

Rohrbach said the pilot was conscious and did not appear to be injured but did appear to be in shock.

Emergency responders arrived shortly after and Rohrbach saw the pilot being attended to.

According to Aaron Keller, 1st assistant fire chief of the Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company, when they arrived on the scene, they found the small plane was up side down and the pilot was out of the plane.

He had some minor cuts and abrasions.

He was treated at the scene by Wind Gap Ambulance and the Pennsylvania State Police, Lehighton, also responded.

Keller said the pilot told him his plane had stalled and he couldn't get it restarted. He saw the soybean field and thought it best to land there.

When he touched down, the plane upset.

He was flying from Beltzville Airport, Lehighton to Pegasus Airport near Greenview Drive, Brodheadsville.

The pilot's name has not been released.
