Plane with landing gear problem lands safely at Montgomery Field Airport (KMYF), San Diego, California

SAN DIEGO - A small plane with a landing gear problem made a safe emergency landing at Montgomery Field Friday afternoon.

At about 3:30 p.m., San Diego Fire-Rescue Department officials said someone in the single-engine Cessna reported that the plane's landing gear could not be brought down.

The plane was originally heading to Gillespie Field in El Cajon, but it was re-routed to Montgomery Field because of the emergency equipment available at that site.

10News learned two people were in the plane, and the aircraft had about four hours of fuel left when the pilot reported the problem.

The plane circled Montgomery Field for nearly an hour before landing safely just before 5:20 p.m.
