Advisory committee meets for second day of airport school

Kansas City International Airport  (KMCI), Missouri

KANSAS CITY, MO - The KCI Advisory Committee held the second session of Airport School at Union Station Thursday.

The group is working to shape the future of the Kansas City International Airport.

The committee worked with experts and studies everything including airport finances, security, the federal aviation administration and a host of other issues.

The 24-member group was put together by Mayor Sly James and has been charged with putting together recommendations about the future of KCI.

David Byers, CEO of Car Star, is part of the committee. He said he is soaking up a lot of information.

“You learn all kinds of things you never thought you’d know about an airport," Byers said.

Byers said he’s excited about moving forward and making recommendations to the city.

“This is very much setting the infrastructure and kind of the baseline knowledge for us to understand how things operate. We’re then going to the next step which will be developing objectives for a new and different terminal,“ he said.

They also discussed ticket prices, passenger convenience and parking. The group also discussed other airports, best practices and things to avoid.

The committee is asked to bring their recommendations to the mayor by the end of the year. The FAA’s recommendation is expected by fall.
