Police deny Cayman Airways documents investigation

No complaint has been filed with the Royal Cayman Islands Police Service regarding the alleged “leak” of a business proposal made by the San Miguel Corporation involving a deal with Cayman Airways that would allow, among other things, flights from the Philippines to Grand Cayman on Philippine Airlines planes.
 
Unless a complaint was filed, the police will not conduct any investigation, according to an RCIPS spokesperson. 

“We are deeply concerned by the comments made that we would ‘harass’ any individual, if such a complaint was received,” read a statement issued by the police Tuesday. “The comments made in relation to both the NRA and the CAL documents are, quite clearly, attempts to politicise the role of the RCIPS.

“We will continue to interview all witnesses, as and when necessary, to investigate allegations of criminality – no matter who those witnesses are.” 

The comments in the statement about the NRA, or National Roads Authority, relate to an investigation that is under way involving the disclosure of confidential information related to the ForCayman Investment Alliance’s plans to relocate and develop West Bay Road in the Seven Mile Beach corridor. 

“As part of that investigation, a number of people have been interviewed to ascertain if indeed a crime has taken place,” the statement read. “That investigation continues. However, we resent any suggestion that any of those witnesses have been ’harassed’ by the RCIPS.

“If anyone feels that they have legitimate grounds for complaint about the RCIPS we encourage them to contact our Professional Standards Unit to allow any allegation to be fully investigated.”
