Video: Andrew Robertson, Captain - Air Canada Boeing 777-200, C-FIUJ, Flight AC-33 - Passenger jet helps locate missing sailor

Passengers on an Air Canada jet flying from Vancouver to Sydney found themselves part of a search for a stricken Australian yacht as their jet descended to as low as 3700ft to look for the boat.

The Boeing 777 joined an Air New Zealand Airbus A320 in the initial search for the boat, which had lost its mast and was drifting about 270 nautical miles (500km) off the coast of Sydney.

Captain Andrew Robertson said the airline was approaching the top of its descent and talking to air traffic control in Brisbane at 8.18am on Tuesday when it was asked to assist.
