Skyfox CA-25N Gazelle, VH-NGM: Aircraft overshot the runway - Moorabbin Airport in Melbourne, Australia

A student pilot has walked away uninjured after making an emergency landing at Moorabbin Airport.

The plane ended up in a garden supply area just outside the fence of the airport in Melbourne's southeast.

The male pilot managed to get out of the two-seater aircraft uninjured after landing safely.

Firefighters doused the plane with foam to suppress a fuel leak after the landing about noon, a Metropolitan Fire Brigade spokeswoman said.

Police said the plane skidded off the runway during take-off.

Ambulance Victoria said it was called to the airport just before noon.

A spokeswoman said she did not know what happened to the plane but believed the pilot was uninjured in the incident.

"We got reports of a plane in difficulty. Details are sketchy but as far as I am aware the pilot, who was the only one on board, is out of the aircraft and has not sustained injuries," she said.
