MARYLAND HEIGHTS, MO. (KTVI) – A water main break Monday morning sent water rushing into a Maryland Heights neighborhood near McKelvey and Roth Hill Rd.
The water was shooting into the air and looked more like a geyser at one point.
The force of the water carried anything in its path.
“We had a freezer full of meat turn sideways with all the meat going down the street,” said Mike Guess.
His mother-in-law was sitting in her basement when the water started pouring in. She had no idea what was happening at first.
“The water was up to the sliding glass door and washed the whole back yard away,” said Betty Figge.
She said her pets had to be rescued.
Restoration crews were removing damaged items from basements. According to Missouri American Water, about 7 homes took on obvious water damage.
The water company hired the restoration crews. Victims can file insurance claims through Missouri American Water.
Harold Strothcamp was nearly in tears staring at a flood-damaged model airplane he built.
“It was a present from my late wife.”
