Porter named one of best airlines Americans have 'never flown'

It's the little airline that could.

USA Today has named Toronto's Porter Airlines as one of the 10 best carriers Americans may never have flown, but should.

Porter is on a recently published list with other fast-growing names such as Allegiant Air and Turkish Airlines.

The newspaper calls Porter's location at the Billy Bishop Toronto City Airport ultra-friendly, with the airline's all-coach seating and cabin service earning excellent marks in international traveller surveys.

It joins JetBlue as the only North American airline getting four-star Skytrax ratings.

Some of the other airlines listed as top performers include low-cost flyer Allegiant Air. Turkish Airlines has been named Europe's best airline by Skytrax. South America's LAN Airlines, Virgin Australia, CityJet of London, Iceland Air and Asiana Airlines are some of the other brands the paper said travellers should consider.

On the downside, USA Today said Porter uses only turbo-props which many travellers don't like and it can't yet provide pre-clearance for people headed for the United States.
