Grounded Marine Pilot Facing More Charges

Major Danny Cohlmeyer was first arrested Sunday by deputies after a woman said the Marine pulled up beside her at the store and was naked from the waist down.

A Marine Corps major, who is already facing one count of indecent exposure, has two more charges against him.

Major Danny Cohlmeyer was first arrested Sunday by Onslow County deputies after a woman reported a man got out of his pickup truck at a convenience store and was naked from the waist down. The woman told deputies the man was touching himself in a lewd manner.

Jacksonville police now say they have two warrants out for Cohlmeyer. Those incidents apparently happened at Coastal Carolina Community College. When contacted this afternoon, a college spokesman would only say they have cooperated with Jacksonville police in their investigation. The court clerk's office says they have no record of the new warrants being served.

Cohlmeyer was an Osprey pilot at New River, but after his arrest the 2d Marine Aircraft Wing said the major was being grounded and reassigned to Cherry Point headquarters. No military charges have been brought against the Marine officer.

A Marine Corps major is accused of exposing himself at an Onslow County convenience store this weekend.

Deputies have charged Major Danny Cohlmeyer with one count of indecent exposure. The 37-year-old Cohlmeyer is stationed at the New River Air Station and is an Osprey pilot.

Onslow County deputies say the Marine was arrested Sunday. They say deputies were sent to the Friendly Mart on Highway 17 South around 4:00 p.m.. A woman customer told them she was pumping gas and a pickup truck pulled up to the next pump. She told deputies a man, who was naked from the waist down and touching himself, got out of his truck.

The woman said when she told the man she was calling authorities he pulled his clothes up and drove off. The victim managed to get the pickup truck's license plate number.

Deputies say when confronted, the Marine major gave them a story hoping to justify what he did.
