Donation To Branch County Memorial Airport (KOEB), Coldwater, Michigan.

COLDWATER, MI (WTVB) - Thanks to the generosity of a longtime community member and pilot, the Branch County Memorial Airport will receive an addition to the newly constructed building.  Bill Geiger of Coldwater recently donated $35,000 to the Branch County Projects Fund through the Branch County Community Foundation, for the addition of a portico at each end of the airport terminal.

This is the first grant for the Branch County Projects Fund, which was set-up to for specific projects in the county that aren’t funded by tax dollars.  Roger Young, chairman of the airport board said, “This project will build a roof and provide picnic tables for community members to come and view planes landing and taking off from the airport.”  Over 14,000 planes a year land and take off from the four different runways at the Branch County Memorial Airport.

Geiger, who was a pilot himself from 1972 till 2000 said, “I wanted to make a donation for the love of aviation.”  The new airport terminal was constructed and opened in 2010 and is an attractive way to greet newcomers flying into Branch County.  In 2010 the airport was named as the Michigan Airport of the Year.  “Making the donation through the Community Foundation seemed to be much easier than going through the county because the full amount of the donation was deductible,” said Ron Dooley, airport manager.

The Branch County Community Foundation is a non-profit organization and a nationally accredited and state-certified community grantmaking foundation that serves communities in Branch County and Colon, Michigan by supporting charitable giving, building permanent endowments, and connecting community resources.
