Royal Navy Sea King rescues newborn baby

Pilot Lieutenant Mike Paulet was grateful to the groud crew as vision was severly hampered by weather

A NEWBORN boy was airlifted by helicopter to Paisley after life-threatening complications set in following his birth at a rural hospital.

The Royal Navy’s search and rescue crew from HMS Gannet at Prestwick battled through atrocious weather to take a specialist medical team from Glasgow to child in Oban where he was born, before transferring mother and baby to the Royal Alexandra Hospital in Paisley.

In the dramatic mercy dash, the Navy team tried to land three times before successfully reaching the baby and his mum at the Lorn and Islands District General Hospital before a return journey in worsening conditions.
