El Al Israel Airlines to fire 200 temporary employees by end of year

El Al Israel Airlines Ltd. issued a press release last week indicating that as with other airlines worldwide the company is facing difficult market conditions, in particular the rise in the cost of jet fuel and therefore decided to take steps to streamline operations. El Al added that the streamlining process would include: removing old, uneconomical airplanes from operation; canceling and reducing the number of unprofitable routes; and organized group vacation times.

"These steps are being taken in an effort to return to profitability," the announcement stated.

The El Al spokesperson announced last week that the company would fire 200 temporary personnel by the end of the year. the announcement noted that "Efficiency is the order of the day at airlines worldwide, including El Al. The future of the company and its customer service are our guiding light."
