Norwich International Airport was put on full emergency alert after a plane travelling from France reported a problem with its hydraulic system.
The A140 Cromer Road that crosses the flight path was shut for about an hour.
The aircraft, with only two crew on board, belonged to Brit Air, the regional airline of Brittany.
Richard Pace, airport operations director, said the plane circled several times so crew could assess the situation before landing safely.
"The pilot warned us of a low hydraulic pressure warning and our emergency plan was implemented.
"Norfolk emergency services were alerted and deployed to the airport. Cromer Road was closed as part of the plan.
"The inbound flight was for aircraft maintenance and storage and the incident was over by 08:26 BST."
