More Tourists from Canada expected in Jamaica this Winter

Tourism Minister Edmund Bartlett has announced that 300,000 airline seats have been secured out of Canada for the upcoming Winter Tourist Season.

He said this will set the stage for record arrivals out of Canada.

In a release Thursday, Mr Bartlett said the boost follows the addition of three new flights from Canada.

Mr. Bartlett said two of the new flights will come from Thunder Bay, Ontario and one new flight from St. John’s, Newfoundland.

The tourism minister also explained that beginning in March next year, Sunwing Airlines will initiate direct flights from Newfoundland, Canada to Montego Bay every Sunday through to April 29.

Mr Bartlett added that the country has seen more than 200,000 visitors during the 2010 winter tourist season.

And he said in light of Jamaica’s homecoming activities planned for next year a target of over 250,000 has been set for the upcoming season.
