Emirates flight makes emergency landing in Chennai

CHENNAI: A Dubai-Kuala Lumpur Emirates flight with 140 passengers made an unscheduled landing at Chennai airport after the pilot detected a snag in one of the engines.

Airport sources said that the pilot detected that the oil pressure was low in one of the engines when the aircraft was near Chennai.

Instead of continuing to fly, the pilot contacted Chennai air traffic control about the snag and it was permitted to land. The flight made a safe landing.

The airport declared a local standby and all facilities were kept ready to meet any incident. An airport official said that it was usual for pilots of overflying aircraft to land at a major airport if a snag develops. Pilots will have information about airports en route so that they can land if a technical snag develops during flight.

Passengers were moved to the terminal and the aircraft was checked for the snag.
