Cessna 206: Plane crashes off Mactan; all 3 persons aboard safe. Near Cebu resort . Hadsan Beach in Lapu-Lapu City, Cebu.

Three persons escaped unhurt Thursday when their aircraft crashed into the waters off Lapu-Lapu City, in Cebu, authorities said.

CEBU CITY, Philippines—Three persons escaped unhurt Thursday when their small aircraft crashed into the waters off Lapu-Lapu City, in Cebu, authorities said.

The three were unscathed and sought help from a nearby fisherman who then picked them up and took them to Hadsan Cove Beach Resort in Barangay Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.

The police identified the three as Captain Joseph Brent Chong Jr., pilot; Captain Saturnino dela Cruz, check pilot; and passenger Dito Adrian.

They were all personnel of the Mactan Aviation Technological Center in Lapu-Lapu who were on a check ride when the aircraft crashed, according to a report received by the Lapu-Lapu City Police Office.

Julius Pagas, police radio operator, said they received a message at 11:30 a.m. that the Cessna plane had crashed into the sea off Hadsan Cove Beach Resort.

Several policemen responded to the alarm and confirmed that the three people on board were safe.

According to a female staffer at the resort, the plane crashed at some distance from the resort.

The staffer, who declined to give her name, said the three were not hurt. “They were just wet,” she said.

They were taken to the resort by a fisherman who picked them up.

She added that one of the three who spoke in Tagalog had asked to use the resort’s telephone.
 
CEBU CITY (3rd Update, 3:22 p.m.) – A six-seater Cessna plane landed in the shoreline of Lapu-Lapu City after losing contact with the air traffic control of the Mactan Cebu International Airport (MCIA) Thursday morning.

Radio dyAB reported that RPC 1175, a Cessna 206, owned by Mactan Aviation Technological Center Inc. (Matci) based in Lapu-Lapu City was on a check flight when the accident happened.

The plane’s passengers - Captain Joseph Brent Chiong Jr. (pilot), Assistant pilot Saturnino dela Cruz and on-the-job trainee Dito Adrian - were unhurt.

Fisherfolk, who were near the crash site, rescued the crew.

The Matci-owned Cessna plane took off at 10:39 a.m. at the MCIA and seven minutes after, it lost contact with the air traffic control of the Air Transportation Office.

Chiong later sent a radio message that they are fine and made an emergency landing in the shoreline near the Hadsan Cove Beach Resort in Agus, Lapu-Lapu City.

These planes are also used for aerial photography, skydiving and other utility purposes. They can also be equipped with floats, amphibious floats and skis. Alternatively, they can be fitted with luxury appointments for use as a personal air transport.

Manila: Two pilots and one passenger escaped death as their Cessna plane crashed into the sea off a beach resort in central Philippines, a radio report said.

The two pilots, Captains Joseph Brent Chong and Saturnino de la Cruz, and one passenger, Dito Adrian, were picked up by fishermen who came to the crash-site. The passengers of the ill-fated Cessna plane were taken to Hadson Cove Beach Resort, before noon, a resort worker told the Radio Inquirer.

The resort was nearest to the area where the plane crashed. "They were just wet. (They were not hurt when they were brought to the resort)," said the staffer who requested for anonymity.

The three work for the Mactan Aviation Technological Centre in Lapu-Lapu City. They were checking the Cessna plane when the incident occurred. They have not yet released statements about the incident.

The plane crash was recorded at 11:30 Thursday morning, the Lapu Lapu City Police said, adding this was followed by the sending of policemen to the crash-site.
