Fire Chief Lance Benjamino and Police Chief Joseph Perkins report that the Middleborough Police and Fire Departments responded after an experimental aircraft crashed into a wooded area near a bog Saturday afternoon.
At approximately 3:14 p.m., Middleborough Police and Fire responded to the bogs in the area of 200 Thomas Street for a report of a plane crash.
Upon arrival, officers and firefighters found that the pilot of a experimental aircraft had already exited the aircraft and was unhurt. The pilot, a 66-year-old Plymouth man, declined medical treatment.
The preliminary investigation indicates that the engine may have failed, causing the pilot to crash into the woods.
The Middleborough Police and Fire Departments have notified the Federal Aviation Administration.
