The main runway at Arnold Palmer Regional Airport in Unity was closed for over an hour Monday after a single-engine plane landed gear up.

The accident occurred at 1 p.m. Airport emergency vehicles and area fire vehicles were still on the scene at 2:20 p.m. removing the Beech B24R Sierra aircraft off the runway.

Airport officials reported the plane’s pilot radioed the airport that his landing gear indicator showed that one of its landing gears had not deployed. The pilot landed and safely exited, but the damaged aircraft had to be removed from the runway.

“No one was injured. The pilot was the only person on the plane,” said Maurice “Moe” Haas, the airport’s operations and public safety director.

No further information on the plane or the pilot was available.
