CHESTERFIELD COUNTY, South Carolina (WPDE) — A single-engine plane crash Sunday around 4:30 p.m. on McKenzie Road south of the McBee community in Chesterfield County, according to Chesterfield County Emergency Management Department Assistant Emergency Services Director Clay Kerns.

Kerns said the pilot of the plane was able to remove himself from the plane and was transported to an area hospital for evaluation by McBee Rescue.

Alligator Fire Department, McBee Rescue Squad, Chesterfield County Sheriffs Office, and Chesterfield Emergency Management assisted in the initial response to the crash.

The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) has been notified and will be handling the investigation.
