RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tennessee -- A small plane made an emergency landing in a field in Rutherford County this morning.

At 10:30 a.m.  Saturday, emergency crews began monitoring a low flying plane that was going down south of Murfreesboro. About 10 minutes later, the plane landed safely in a field on Rucker Road in the county.

The Rutherford County Sheriff's Office said a Cessna 162 called "mayday" after it stalled and could not be restarted. Onboard were a Murfreesboro pilot and passenger.

No injuries are reported after the plane made a safe landing.

The plane was headed to Shelbyville from Murfreesboro, according to RCSO.

Representatives with the Federal Aviation Administration are responding.




MURFREESBORO, Tennessee (WSMV) - The pilot of a Cessna 162 made an emergency landing in a Rutherford County field early Saturday morning. 

The pilot and passenger were flying when the engine of the plane stalled and could not be restarted, according to Sgt. Bryant Gregory with the Rutherford County Sheriff’s department. 

The pilot put the plane down in a field on Rucker Road. 

“The plane was flying from Murfreesboro to Shelbyville when the emergency happened and the pilot called ‘Mayday,’” Gregory said. “There are no injuries or damages.”

The FAA is investigating. 


RUTHERFORD COUNTY, Tennessee (WTVF) — No injuries were reported after a pilot flying a Cessna 162 airplane made an emergency landing in Rutherford County this morning.

According to the Rutherford County Sheriff's Office, the pilot from Murfreesboro and a passenger were flying when the plane stalled out and failed to restart.

The emergency landing was made on a field near Rucker Road around 10 a.m.

"The plane was flying from Murfreesboro to Shelbyville when the emergency happened and the pilot called, 'Mayday,'" Rutherford County Sheriff's Office Sergeant Bryant Gregory said.

Representatives with the Federal Aviation Administration are responding. Deputies with the sheriff's office and Rutherford County Fire and Rescue are also on the scene.

  1. Monitored the low flying plane "...going down..." for ten minutes. Ha! Great glide ratio! Must have that super-duper sailplane wing.
