On April 1, 2020, about 1340 central daylight time, a Beech M35, N9883R, sustained substantial damage when it was involved in an accident near Sequin, Texas. The pilot and passenger sustained no injuries. The airplane was operated as a Title 14 Code of Federal Regulations Part 91 personal flight.

According to the pilot, after the initial power reduction after takeoff, he heard a continuous "loud exhaust popping" noise. The pilot decided to return to the airport and land. Once established and setup on the final approach for runway 14, the pilot concluded that the airplane was "high and fast" and there was insufficient altitude to perform any descending turns. The pilot reported he was committed to the landing even though he knew he would land "long and hot."

The airplane landed to the runway and came to rest after impacting a metal farm fence located off the end of the runway. The pilot reported the engine continued running until he shut it down after the airplane impacted the fence.

The airplane sustained substantial damage to both wings during the accident. The airplane was secured for a future examination of the airframe and engine.
