OTTUMWA — Authorities said a pilot was fortunate to walk away from a crash this weekend at Ottumwa Regional Airport.

The Ottumwa Fire Department responded to the airport at 10:50 a.m. Saturday after the plane flipped upon landing. Officials said it apparently suffered a malfunction in the landing gear upon landing.

The name of the pilot has not been released. The National Transportation Safety Board, which investigates aircraft incidents, did not have a report in its online docket as of Tuesday afternoon.

National Transportation Safety Board records gave the most recent reported incident at Ottumwa Regional Airport as taking place three years ago, in September 2016.
