LEE'S SUMMIT, Missouri  — A pilot is recovering after his small plane went off the north/south runway Friday evening at the Lee's Summit Municipal Airport.

The small airport, which is located in the 2700 block of Northeast Douglas Road, does not have a control tower.

Airport officials were not able to talk to the pilot before he went to the hospital, according to a Lee's Summit Police Department news release.

Emergency crews found the Cessna 150M owned by Clay County-based Rebel Aviation off the east side of the north/south runway, according to the news release.

The pilot was alone in the plane.

The runways at the airport have reopened and investigators from the Federal Aviation Administration will determine the cause of the incident.

  1. Wow so sad to see "Hot Stuff" in that condition. I flew it when it was new, based at CLE in 1977
