Analysis
The pilot reported that, during landing, the airplane touched down and suddenly "pitched and lifted to the right." He added power to go around, but the airplane climbed and "turned way more to the left." The airplane impacted trees, spun, and dropped onto terrain.
The airplane sustained substantial damage to the fuselage.
The pilot reported that there were no preaccident mechanical failures or malfunctions with the airplane that would have precluded normal operation.

It happened around 6:00 p.m. near the Birch Creek Airport on Birch Creek Drive in Rockland Tuesday.
Officials say the 69-year-old pilot and sole occupant of the plane was taken to the hospital by a family member with minor injuries.
The plane was a Cessna 172 Skyhawk.
The plane is believed to be a total loss.
Officials say foul play is not suspected and the investigation is being turned over to the Federal Aviation Administration.
