United Airlines, Boeing 767-300: Incident occurred June 13, 2017 at Newark Liberty International Airport (KEWR),Newark, Essex County, New Jersey




NEWARK -- United Airlines cancelled a flight out of Newark Liberty International Airport on Tuesday night after fuel gushed from one of the plane's wings as it taxied to the runway.

A video shot by a passenger shows fuel spilling onto the runway from the edge of the left wing.

Flight 170 was scheduled to depart for Venice, Italy at 6:55 p.m, but was forced to return to the gate.

Passengers were put in a hotel and United will attempt to re-book them on a flight Wednesday, United said in a statement. United described the incident as a "fuel leak," but didn't mention where the leak originated.

A United Airlines flight bound for Italy has been cancelled after fuel gushed from one of its wings as it taxied to the runway at Newark Liberty International Airport.

The spill occurred Tuesday night. Witnesses said the fuel came from the edge of the plane's left wing, but it wasn't clear what caused the leak, where it originated or how much fuel was spilled.

Authorities say Flight 170 was scheduled to depart for Venice at 6:55 p.m. Passengers aboard the plane were put up in a hotel overnight, and the airline was hoping to book them on a new flight Wednesday.
