On July 22, 2016, about 1200 central standard time, a Stinson 108-2 single engine airplane, N8019K, registered to a private individual, sustained substantial damage during a forced landing after a loss of engine power near the Dodge Center Airport (TOB), Dodge Center, Minnesota. Of the 3 occupants on board, the private pilot and one passenger sustained minor injuries and one passenger was not injured. The personal cross country flight was being under the provisions of Federal Code of Regulations Part 91. No flight plan was filed and visual meteorological conditions prevailed in the vicinity of the accident. The flight originated from Mankato Municipal Airport (MKT), Mankato, Minnesota about 1130 and was enroute to Oshkosh, Wisconsin.

According to the pilot, the airplane had stopped at MKT for fuel and took off with no problems. After about 30 minutes of flight and cruising at 1,000 AGL, the engine was developing power at a steady 2,350 RPMs when the engine started to lose power to about 2,100 RPMs. The pilot pulled the carburetor heat ON for a few seconds and then pushed it back. The pilot started to look for a place to land and diverted to the Dodge Center Airport. The power remained at 2,100 RPMs for about 10 miles while flying to the airport and then began to lose more power. At this point, the pilot initiated maneuvers to land on a road about 1 mile from Dodge Center. The airplane landed in a field and rolled over. All three occupants exited the airplane through the cabin doors.

Examination of the airplane wreckage by an FAA inspector at the accident site did not reveal any anomalies. The reported weather observation METAR at Dodge Center (TOB) about the time of the accident was:

According to the Icing Probability Chart (included in the docket), with a temperature of 31 degrees and dew point of 24 degrees, the aircraft engine was operating in conditions susceptible to light carburetor icing at cruise or descent power.

(ABC 6 News) - UPDATE: The Dodge County Sheriff's Office says around 11 a.m. Friday morning they received a report of a plane crash on Dodge County Road 9 northeast of Dodge Center.

When deputies arrived on-scene they found that a small personal aircraft on its roof on County Road 9 just before 630th Street.  The two passengers inside the aircraft had non-life threatening injuries, the pilot was uninjured.  All three are from out of state.

The Sheriff's Office says according to deputies on scene it appears the pilot was having engine problems and was trying to reach the Dodge Center Airport when it stalled and was forced to make an emergency landing.

Right now the road is closed while the scene is being investigated and the roadway is able to be cleared.

Dodge County Firefighters are on scene of a small plane crash near the Dodge Center Airport.

The small plane is on its roof near 210th Ave. between Highway 34 and 625th St.

According to the fire department, people were walking around after the crash.



DODGE CENTER — A small airplane crashed on a county road northeast of Dodge Center on Friday morning, with minor injuries to two passengers reported.

The Dodge County Sheriff's Office received reports about 11 a.m. of a plane crash on Dodge County Road 9, just south of 630th Street. Passengers were trying to exit the aircraft by the time deputies arrived on scene. The plane was flipped on its roof on the roadway.

Two passengers were transported with non-life threatening injuries to the hospital. The pilot was uninjured. Their names were not released, but the authorities said all three were from out of state.

The Dodge Center Fire Department and the Dodge County Sheriff's Office were on scene, as well as officials from the National Transportation Safety Board and the Federal Aviation Administration.

According to deputies at the scene, the pilot was having engine problems with the plane and was trying to reach the Dodge Center Airport before it stalled and forced an emergency landing. When deputies arrived, they found the plane on its roof, and its occupants trying to get out.

Dodge County Road 9 was closed from Highway 34 to 625th Street because of the accident, according to the sheriff's office's Facebook page. The road was expected to be reopened on Friday evening.
