Local veterans and active duty military personnel will be able to meet Tuesday with potential employers and learn about veterans services at the second free South Jersey Regional Resource and Opportunity Fair.
Coordinated by the American Legion, Red Cross and Cape May County Citizens Veterans Advisory Committee, the fair runs from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Naval Air Station Wildwood Aviation Museum at the Cape May Airport in Lower Township.
Joseph Scanlon, senior vice commander for the American Legion in Cape May County, and vice chair of the Economic and Employment Advisory Committee for American Legion Department of New Jersey, said all seven American Legion posts in the county will be on hand to assist veterans. The local Sons of the American Legion and auxiliary members are also participating to help veterans get personalized service at the event.
Representatives from Department of Veterans Affairs along with other social service agencies will be on site to help with benefits. Lunch will be available, and the event will also include a Mr. and Ms. N.J. Veteran event at which veterans are invited to share their stories and compete to represent the state.
The American Legion held a similar event at Richard Stockton College in April, and is also planning fairs in Gloucester County and Atlantic City this year. The goal is to expand statewide and provide veterans and those serving in the military with a one-stop site for information and assistance.
