PORTSMOUTH — At least 100 to 125 volunteers are needed as actors for a
simulated “full-scale airplane crash” at Pease International Airport
Saturday morning, Oct. 4.
Volunteers can be either victims or
“concerned family members,” according to Zachary Boasbert of the Pease
Airport Management Department.
Those who would want to volunteer
should contact Jennifer Schirmer of the Department of Health and Human
Services, 603-271-9454; jennifer.schirmer@dhhs.state.nh.us. Volunteers who call and would be asked to leave a voice mail should leave a name and a call back number.
The exercise will begin at approximately 8 a.m. and run until around 12:30 p.m.
Residents
and travelers in the area of the airport are reminded by Boasbert to be
aware the activity at Pease International Airport during that time is
only a drill.
The exercise, titled “Seacoast Response 2014” is
mandated by the Federal Aviation Administration as a drill that must be
held at least once every three years.
The exercise will be conducted by the Pease Development Authority, Airport Management Department.
This year’s exercise will involve the five Seacoast/Tri-City Region
hospitals: Portsmouth Regional Hospital, Wentworth-Douglass Hospital of
Dover, Frisbie Memorial Hospital of Rochester, Exeter Hospital and York
Hospital.
Other agencies involved in drill include the Pease Fire
Department, Newington and Portsmouth Police and Fire Departments, Dover
Fire Department, Rockingham County Sheriff’s Department, the office of
the Chief Medical Examiner, the New Hampshire State Police, the New
Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services and the American Red
Cross. Other communities included in the primary response area for Pease
are New Castle, Greenland and Portsmouth Naval Shipyard.
