Illinois State Police begins roadside, air patrols for holiday weekend

Illinois State Police will beef up patrols on the ground and in the air for the Memorial Day weekend.

Illinois State Police Trooper Calvin Dye said that the patrols will begin Thursday in Madison and St. Clair Counties searching for drivers who are speeding, distracted, impaired or without a seat belt.

ISP will also have airplane patrols, dependent upon weather, with a trooper pilot calling out speeds to troopers who are standing by in the area.

Dye said that the previous airplane patrol caught 26 speeders within a two-hour span on Interstate 55.
