Terre Haute International Airport (KHUF) waiting on Federal Aviation Administration approval to build new entrance

You'll start noticing more road construction out by the Terre Haute Airport if the FAA gives the go ahead.

The Air National Guard needs a new entrance but a few things have to happen first.

The plan is to build a road off of the southwest side of new roundabout on State Road 42.

The Air Guard will build the entrance gate, but INDOT has to build the road to it. The FAA has to give the airport the green light to hand over the property to INDOT.

In return INDOT will return the land to the city for maintenance.

There are two benefits; the 181st needs to meet new military gate security standards and the airport needs to close the current entrance road.

"It's just kind of an internal land swap to get the new road built and the old road closed because it runs through the runway protection zone for one of our runways, so the FAA really wants us to get this new road in so we can get that old road closed," says Bill Foraker, the airport's interim director.

Foraker says this is about a three-month process but they should get approval in the next few weeks.
