SAHUARITA, Ariz. (KGUN9-TV) - An ultralight aircraft crashed down near Wilmot and Sahuarita roads, killing the only person on board.
Based on what is left of the aircraft, it appears to be a small, single-person rotorcraft.
Pima County Sheriff's Department says an anonymous person called 911 from a Mexico cell phone around 9:30 Saturday night to report the wreck.
He said it happened a couple of days before but did not call earlier because of his immigration status.
Authorities did not find the wreckage until around 12:30 Sunday afternoon, about 300 yards off the nearest road and more than a mile away from civilization.
They found one man dead at the scene. Deputies say it was too difficult to identify the man in the field. He was transported to the medical examiner's office.
Pieces of the small plane are scattered in the desert. Deputies believe the aircraft was heading south, skidded on the ground then crashed and burned.
Deputies said no one had reported a missing person. They also said no drugs had been found at the scene, but deputies did find a metal contraption they say is typically used to smuggle drugs from this type of aircraft.

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) — Officials have discovered the body of the pilot of an ultralight plane that reportedly crashed days ago in southern Arizona.
Pima County sheriff's Deputy Tracy Suitt says the wreckage was found Sunday south of Tucson during a search by the sheriff's department and Tucson police that included air units. No one else was aboard the unregistered aircraft.
The Federal Aviation Administration says it doesn't certify ultralight aircraft or investigate accidents involving them.
The sheriff's department received a call from a witness around 9:30 p.m. Saturday saying he saw the plane go down "a couple of days ago" near Sahuarita and Wilmot roads. Suitt says the man didn't report the incident sooner because of his immigration status. That status wasn't known.
On Saturday, darkness suspended a search, which resumed Sunday.
