ATLANTA - Many count the "firsts" of the year, but the TSA is using their "first" at Atlanta's airport to warn those who would fly with firearms.

A spokesperson for the Transportation Security Administration says the first gun was found at a security checkpoint at Atlanta's Hartsfield Jackson International Airport on Wednesday. The gun was an unloaded .22 with 30 rounds in a carry-on bag.

They say that TSA discovered 100 firearms at checkpoints at the airport in 2012. That is 69 more than the year before.

TSA officials say firearms can only be transported in checked baggage. They advise travelers to visit their website for the latest rules and restrictions on flying with firearms.
