Two commercial aircraft
sustained damage Monday night at Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International
Airport when the wingtip of one clipped the tail section of the other,
according to Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue.
It happened just before 10 p.m. in a remote area of the airfield at 300 Terminal Drive, in Fort Lauderdale.
An
investigation determined that the damage to the left wing of a Spirit
Airlines Airbus A-320 occured as it clipped a parked US Airways Airbus
A-320 while taxiing in earlier, Fire Rescue spokesman Mike Jachles said.
The
US Airways aircraft was parked in a remote area away from the gate,
where aircraft are parked overnight, when it sustained a gash in the
tail section, he said.
It appears the left wing of the Spirit Airlines plane clipped the tail section of the parked US Airways jet, Jachles said.
There
was no fuel leak from either aircraft and no injuries were reported.
The Broward County Aviation Department and Broward Sheriff Fire Rescue
responded to the scene of the collision and a full investigation was
anticipated.
