Plane slides off runway, hits fence at Chandler airport

A single-engine plane skid off the runway and crashed into a fence at Stellar Airpark in Chandler Friday evening, authorities said.
Around 6:15 p.m., the plane, a Cirrus SR20, was landing on the south side of the runway when it skid off and crashed into a chain-link fence, said Tom Dwiggins with the Chandler Fire Department. The plane was carrying two people, and no injuries were reported, Dwiggins said.
Some of the fiberglass on the plane was damaged when it hit fence, an official with Stellar Airpark told 12 News. The cause of the crash is still under investigation, although the runway was extremely wet when the plane landed, the official said.
The plane is registered to Cloud Aviation in Mesa, according to FAA records.
Stellar Airpark is a privately owned, public use airport surrounded by custom homes, businesses and commercial properties. The airport is owned and operated by the “Stellar Runway Utilizers Association”, a non profit corporation. Use of the airport by the public is conditional, subject to compliance with the current rules and regulations.
