WATSONVILLE -- Car
show promoter and cable TV show host Mike Hennessey will manage the 2013
Watsonville Fly-In, adding Planes, Trains and Automobiles to the name
of the nearly 50-year-old event.
True to its new name,
Hennessey, who announced the change Tuesday, plans to make cars a big
part of the air show with displays of specialty vehicles and races
pitting high-powered cars against planes.
He also plans a tribute
concert to the late Richie Valens, a "drive-in" movie, an
aviation/automotive swap meet, a carnival, zip line rides, cooking
demonstrations and, of course, exhibits of planes and shows by pilots.
The show will continue to be held during Labor Day Weekend, Aug. 30-Sept. 1.
"We're
going to cover all aspects," said Hennessey, who produces Hot San Jose
Nights and the Car Guy Channel. "We're going to make it fun." For
