The grounded Kingfisher
Airlines faced another blow when at least seven of its aircraft parked
at Mumbai airport were impounded by the service tax department for its
failure to pay around Rs200 crore as dues.
According to sources,
the order was passed by MRR Reddy, the additional commissioner of
service tax (Mumbai) on Friday. The order stated that Kingfisher Airlines
has not paid an estimated Rs63 crore apart from the interest payable on
it thereon. In addition, the airline also needs to pay around Rs128
crore in other dues. The airline, on its part, had approached the higher
authorities to order a stay on the impounding of its aircrafts, but
failed to get it.
