A pilot is dead after his ultralight airplane crashed in a field outside Montreal.
Police say the victim is a man in his 50s but have not released his identity. A witness spotted the aircraft coming in at a low altitude and alerted police to the crash after seeing the plane go down. The man rushed to the crash site and found the severely wounded pilot.
Rescue workers attempted to resuscitate the pilot upon arrival but he was declared dead shortly after in hospital.
Police and Transportation Safety Board officials are trying to determine the cause of the late-morning crash southeast of Montreal.

A man in his 50s is dead after a plane crashed in a field Wednesday morning, South of Montreal.
The ultralight plane went down around 10:30 a.m. in Saint-Jean-Baptiste, near Mont-Saint-Hilaire.
Police said a witness saw the plane circling above just before it crashed. The plane appeared to be having some difficulties.
The pilot was the only person on board the plane.
Police and transportation safety board officials are on their way to the scene to try to determine what went wrong.

Local police said they could not immediately confirm multiple media reports that the ultralight pilot died.
The crash site is near du Cordon and Benoit Rds., on the outskirts of the small municipality near St-Damase, east of Beloeil.
The type of rear-engine ultralight, along with other details, were not immediately available.
