Yorkshire Air Ambulance moves its new Northern satellite base to RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk (With Video)

York MP Hugh Bayley will repeat calls for air ambulances to be exempt from paying VAT on fuel in a Commons debate. Mr. Bayley was first approached about this issue by his constituent, Ken Sharpe, who drew attention to the fact that special provision is made in the EU VAT Directive for the zero-rating of fuel for use by the Royal National Lifeboat Institution but no provision is made for the Air Ambulance Service. Ken started an e petition that now has 150,000 signatures.

The Duke of York paid a flying visit to the region today - arriving by airplane at RAF Topcliffe near Thirsk.

Prince Andrew was there to open the Yorkshire Air Ambulance's new northern support unit - and to join an elite list of the charity's patrons. Sally Simpson has the details.
