Fidler named director at new Cleveland Regional Jetport

The manager of Fayette County Airport near Somerville in Western Tennessee will become the director of operations/marketing at Cleveland Regional Jetport on June 14.

Mark Fidler brings with him about 48 years experience managing airline dispatch offices for Northwest Airlink, and flying for Braniff, FedEx, and as a corporate pilot for Fortune 500 companies, accumulating about 10,000 hours of flight time under his belt. He has managed the Fayette County Airport near Somerville for the past five years.

Fidler’s was one of 24 resumes received by the Cleveland Municipal Airport Authority after advertising for the position. The resumes were distributed between board members who individually scored each applicant. The score sheets were tallied and the top five were selected. Of those, the top three were interviewed.

According to a press release issued Friday afternoon by the city of Cleveland, Fidler said Cleveland is in a position to create one of the premier airports in the country with a facility reflecting the charm and enthusiasm that makes Cleveland such a great place to live and work.

“I began hanging around airports when I was old enough to ride my bicycle to an airport not too far from our home in West Virginia. That’s when the ‘addiction to aviation’ began, he said.

“Wherever we lived as I was growing up, my passion was with airplanes, airports and pilots. It’s as much a part of my life as my name.”

According to the release, he said the county airport where he now works was transformed from “what was basically an eyesore and source of irritation to the county into a revenue center that Fayette County residents proudly refer to now as ‘their airport.’”

The runway has been extended, 20 T-hangars were built, new terminal building and aircraft fueling system were among improvements during the transition. Jet fuel sales continue to climb with each passing month. Corporate jet and turbo-prop aircraft routinely use the airport. Pilots choose to stop there instead of Memphis to avoid delays and high costs of fuel and other services, he said in the release.

“The biggest reason for our success though is the outgoing and accommodating service offered to our customers,” Fidler said.

“Our goal is to have customers leave with the feeling of just having made a new friend. That is what I hope to offer at the new Cleveland Regional Jetport.”
