Piper Aircraft, Inc., a legacy general aviation manufacturer, is seeking an Assistant General Counsel for their location in Vero Beach, FL.

SUMMARY:

Assist the General Counsel in providing analysis and counsel primarily on litigation and product liability insurance matters but including a certain amount of corporate/commercial, financial, employment, and environmental issues, among others. Anticipate and guard against legal risks facing the company. Participates in developing and recommending company policy and position on legal issues.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:

• Provide legal counsel on issues arising from actual or anticipated lawsuits.

• Represent the Company or its officials in various legal proceedings, up to and including litigation, review and/or prepare legal pleadings, motions, discovery, stipulations, etc.

• Provide input into selecting as well as closely interacting with outside counsel and lead insurance company as needed.

• Manage Company’s litigation expenses, including any SIR with the intent to reduce costs when and where possible

• Provide analysis and counsel on legal and policy issues to include; proposed new products, protecting intellectual property, vendor contracts, memorandums of understanding,  joint ventures,  nondisclosure agreements, outsourcing agreements, business strategic planning, corporate governance, etc.

• Develop and recommend company policy and position on legal issues.

• Conduct and coordinate research into a variety of legal issues.

• Write, review, and edit reports, opinions, correspondence, articles, and other documents.

• Write and administer complex vendor, client, and employment contracts.

• Develop and recommend operating policies and procedural improvements.

• Interact with other Company executives to provide real-time solutions to pressing daily issues

• Other duties as assigned.
